"Oh say can you see, by the dawns early light . . ."
These are the familiar words of our national anthem of which most Americans know the lyrics to the first verse. But did you know that the Star Spangled Banner actually has 4 verses?
You can read all 4 verses here: Star Spangled Banner Complete Lyrics
In this article though, I want to share the lyrics of the fourth verse. It is rich in the Christian foundations of our country.
Here's what it says:
"O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave."
This is so beautiful. It is quick to remind us that the One who has preserved our freedoms all these years is God! He is the One who has given us this country. He is Ruler of all. Let us not forget that. Let's praise Him for our freedoms. Let's trust in Him to do what is best for us. Let's turn to Him in repentance and let Him renew our hearts. Our founding fahters understood that He is the One who has provided us with all these blessings!
Our founding fathers weren't perfect, and not all of them were Christians. They were human just like us, with their own flaws and weaknesses. But we can learn from their value of faith, of prayer, of repentance, of freedom, and of life.
May we say, like them, "In God is our trust."
Not in health. Not in money. Not in fame. Not in the media. Not in influencers. Not even in our government or our army (though we are incredibly grateful for them and their service!). Our trust should be 100%, completely, and fully in GOD.
May you have a blessed day celebrating how God has preserved our country, and may you take time to thank Him for His many blessings to us and our country. May you never turn to anything or anyone other than our Creator and God. May your motto in life be, "In God is my trust." May you live in faith. May you walk in freedom. May you have a heart of humility and repentance. May you pray without ceasing.
May you live ultimately as a citizen of heaven, a son/daughter of the King of kings, a sojourner on this earth awaiting the day you will go home to be with the Lord, and in the meantime reaching out to those around you, praying for you counrty, and preaching the Gospel to every nation, tribe, and tongue!
God bless America!
