Christmas Photo Ideas...

It's the Christmas season! I wanted to share some fun ideas for Christmas themed photography!

Here you go: :)

Baking

A Christmas Star Cookies Tree (Display extra cookies and ingredients, but keep the cookie tree the center/focus of the photo. Make sure the lighting is good. And you can even use Christmas foliage or decorations in the photo too.)
Take a photo of your rolled out cookie dough after you've cut it, but before you take the cut cookies out. Scatter tools, ingredients, and ribbon/twine throughout the sides. Make sure you don't overdo any background props in food photos, and you keep the food the main subject. You don't want people to be overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in your photo, but you don't always want your photo to be super plain and lonely. :)
Take a pic of yourself, or someone else, working in the kitchen. Take pics of people frosting Christmas cookies, rolling cookie dough, putting cookies in the oven, taking cookies out (like the pic above), and whatever else you can think of. The more pics, the better! You can always delete the ones that don't turn out. :)
Take a pic of your cute, decorated cookies. Focus on one cookie, with the other cookies blurred in the background. You can use Christmas lights in the background too, like in the picture above. This especially looks nice in the low lighting.
What if your not only baking cookies? Take pics of whatever you decide to bake this Christmas season! A tip for food photography: use ingredients, decorations, and tools in the background, but keep the food your main focus.
Some ideas for backgrounds/props for Christmas food photography: string, ribbon, lights, foliage, pine cones, ingredients, baking tools, extra cookies, candy canes.

Christmas Drinks
Take a photo of your favorite Christmas drink: hot cocoa, peppermint mocha, tea, etc.. Use foliage, lights, and other food/ingredients to decorate the scene. I like how the colors of the orange slices and cranberries, with a few pine needles, set the scene for the photo above.
Use Christmas cookies in your pic too, because who doesn't want a Christmas cookie with their hot cocoa!? :) The lights in the background of this pic make it look soft and pretty.
Make marshmallow snowmen in your hot cocoa! I saw this pic and thought it was such a cute idea. ;)
Hold your Christmas drink again. ;)
And drink your Christmas drink! ;)

Foliage

Take photos of the different foliage at Christmas time. You can scatter them, arrange them on the edge like the photo above, arrange them on the sides of the photo, make a circle of foliage, etc..
Take a photo of a beautiful wreath, especially when the wreath is on a fun colored door! :)
I love this idea! Take one branch of a pine tree, and turn it into a mini Christmas tree! Then photograph it with small lights! So cute. ;)

Gifts

Photograph a beautifully wrapped gift, tied with a ribbon. You can photograph it in a tree, under a tree, or wherever!
Take a photo of a beautifully wrapped gift with a colorful or bright background. And you can photograph someone holding it, as if they are giving it to someone.

Kids

Take a photo of someone whispering a secret! Maybe their telling someone about a gift they are getting. :)
Photograph siblings and little kids. People love to see children's excitement at this time of the year.
Build a snowman! :) Take a pic of the building process, and then one when it's finished too!

Lights

Take a photo of the Christmas lights in town. :)
Take a photo of a beautiful Christmas tree from down below! Trying different angels can be neat for all kinds of pictures.
Photograph someone looking up at the lights.
Take a picture of a festive home.
Take a photograph of beautiful outside light displays.

People
Take a pic of someone holding two candy canes in the shape of a heart. Notice in the pic above the depth of field (that means the candy cane is the main focus, and the rest is blurred into the background).
Photograph people decorating the Christmas tree!
Take a photo of someone holding a Christmas ball. Notice again the depth of field in this photo. Experiment with different poses, lighting, angels, and depths of field.
Take some fun photos with Christmas socks and sweaters!
Be goofy! Wear reindeer antler headbands or Santa hats or elf ears. Hold red Christmas balls to your nose and pretend to be Rudolph! ;) Come up with your own ideas too.

Pets

Photograph someone with their pet. I think the pic above was a cute idea!
Photograph cute dogs looking out the window at the snow! ;)
Dogs can be really cute, and really funny with reindeer antlers!
And you should definitely photograph your dog with a Santa hat (if you can make your dog keep it on!).

Winter Wonderland

Capture beautiful winter scenery! I love the picture above, how it captures the snow on the tree branches, but also has the bright red color of the berries.
Capture pictures of the snow coming down.
Capture beautiful snow-covered pine trees! Whether it's in your backyard or a beautiful woods. :) The best time to take photos is always an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset.
Take photos of beautiful lakes. They can be really crystal clear and pretty in the winter.
Take pictures of tree branches covered in snow. Pine trees are always a good idea. But any tree branches that still have leaves on them are a good idea.

Other

Another idea is to use letters to spell something in your photo. Like the photo above!
Take a photograph of a unique ornament on the tree, with the beautiful glow of the lights in the background. :) Christmas tree lights are always a good option for photos in low light! They help bring that warm and soft glowy touch to the photo, and also help keep it from being too dark and blurry.
Create a Christmas tree shape with objects, and photograph it against a plain background.
Set up a Christmas themed stationary station and photograph it from above. :)

I hope you enjoy some of these ideas! I enjoy photography, and it's always fun for me to find new inspiration and ideas! I would love to hear from you: if you have any ideas or if you do any of the ideas above!

Have a merry Christmas!
