LIFE

Where does life come from?

God is the Author of life. (Acts 3:15) All life comes from Him. He created life. Acts 17:24-25, 28a says, "The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. . . for "In Him we live and move and have our being.""

The definition of life

Life means existence. It means being alive. So when God created life, He brought living and breathing creatures into existence. This is spectacular and marvelous!

The value of life

God values life. He values it because it is His good creation. Genesis 9:6 says, "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in His own image." God values life so much, that if someone takes a life away the punishment is that that mans life should be taken as well. God values life because He made us in His own image. We also read of God's value for life in the following verses:
Job 31:15 "Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?"
Psalm 139:13-16 "For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."
Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." (God is talking to Jeremiah in this verse.)

The way of life

In Deuteronomy God is giving Israel 2 choices: they can follow and obey Him and receive blessings and life, or they can disobey Him and receive curses and death. Also in Proverbs 6:23 we read how the way of life is the reproofs of discipline. Life is found in obedience and discipline. We often think that true life and living is found in doing whatever we enjoy or feel like doing. But the way of life is found in obeying God and walking in His ways, even when it's hard. Proverbs 21:21 "Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor." Ultimately, the way of selfishness, indulgence, and self-pleasure leads to death. (See Proverbs 7:23 and 14:12)

Life in Christ

1 John 5:12 "Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." We know that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. (Jn. 14:6) True, everlasting, eternal life is found in Him! Everyone who puts their truth, faith, and hope in Jesus will have everlasting life!

The book of life

In Revelation we read about the book of life. This is God's book, which contains the names of those who are saved. It's called the book of life, because those who are written in it will live. Jesus gives life that never ends to His people! Psalm 133:3 tells us that life forevermore is a blessing from the Lord! John 11:25-26 says, "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?""

God's purpose, plan, and calling for each individual life

1 Corinthians 7:17 "Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches." In this verse Paul is reminding the church that God knows each of our lives individually, and He has a purpose for each of us! (Prov. 16:4) We must live our life in a God-glorifying way, by following Gods purpose (to glorify Him, know Him, and make Him known), but that will look different for each of us. Some of us might be moms, missionaries, pastors, mentors, etc.. As long as we are faithfully serving and following God we will be living with purpose!

Living for Christ

We see many verses that remind us to live for Christ. If we want to truly live we must live for Christ! We do this by faithfully walking with the Lord, disciplining ourselves in the faith by reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on God's word, obeying the Lord, bearing fruit, enduring, and even being willing to give up our lives for Christ!

Here are some verses to look up that remind us to live for Christ:
Romans 6:10
Romans 12:1
Romans 14:8
2 Corinthians 5:15
Galatians 2:20
Galatians 5:25
Philippians 1:21
1 Peter 2:16
1 John 4:9

So may you love, value, and understand God's design for life, and may you live a life that is truly focused on Christ and glorifying to God!

Love your Savior; Learn and grow in your knowledge of Jesus Christ; and Live for God!
Love Learn Live!

2 Corinthians 5:15 . . .
~ and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their own sake died and was raised.~
