"When I consider the cross of Christ, how can anything I do be considered sacrifice?" - Amy Carmichael
This is coming from someone who started fund raisers to help underprivileged kids, who went to India, despite her health issues, to be a missionary, who rescued and cared for young girls that had been enslaved at Hindu temples, and who also built a house for boys and a community hospital! She sacrificed everything, even her own health, to care for and rescue hundreds of children! She left her own home and country to serve others. She gave her whole life to Christ. And yet her sacrifice was nothing compared to that of Christ's sacrifice. Christ sacrificed everything in order to offer us the free gift of salvation! We too should be willing to sacrifice everything for the One who sacrificed more than we could ever imagine for us!
Amy didn't consider what she gave up a sacrifice compared to what Christ had done for her. Neither should we.
We have received freely; we must give freely! Mark 10:45 says, "Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." If even Christ, the perfect and holy Son of God, came to serve and not be served, we too, lowly sinful human beings, should be willing and ready to serve Christ and others.
Luke 9:23 tells us to die to self daily. Dying to self and serving others is a daily struggle! We must choose to follow Christ no matter the personal cost every single day! It can be hard, but it is so worth it! We must be faithful to follow Christ no matter the cost, serve others, and die to self and our worldly desires every day!
"You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving." -Amy Carmichael
